~Establishment of "Spinmechatronics" that realizes the quantum interaction between electron spin and mechanical torque in solids~

-Japanese Page-

Background

Spintronics is one of the subjects of great current interest that will be essential in next-generation electronics. Spintronics exploits both electron charge and electron spin simultaneously so as to produce novel function and property of electronics devices. The central concept of spintronics is the quantum relativistic effect of conduction electrons and transfer of spin-angular momentum.   To control the spin current, magnetic dynamics or electromagnetic fields have been used.

Objectives

In our group, we combine a mechanical rotation and the spintronics. We establish "spinmechatronics" that realizes the quantum interaction between electron spin and mechanical torque in solids (Fig.1).

(1) Magnetization manipulation in terms of mechanical rotation.

(2) Detection of spin current generation from rotating objects using spin-Hall and spin torque effect.

(3) Detection of the coupling between nuclear spin and electron spin dynamics and/or current.

Future prospective

Utilizing the spin-mechatroncis will help us realize an actuator driven by a spin current in a nano scale and mechanical generator of spin currents.
